Although marriedfor 20 years, but has not been blessed with a son. Until one night, DewiMahamaya dreamed of seeing a white elephant who for then consort and thenpregnant.
Accordingto the prevailing customs, the empress should give birth in the home of hisparents, so that at the time of giving birth, go Mahamaya to the palace of hisparents in the kingdom of Koliya. On the way, Dewi Mahamaya stopped to rest inLumbini park. At the time of rest, his son was born.
Everyonewas happy, even the heavens and the earth seemed to also welcome his joy overthe birth of his son who fell during the month of Purnama Siddhi in Waisakmonth (Mahayana Buddhism version, 566 BC 8th day of the fourth month accordingto the lunar calendar. World Fellowship of Buddhist, May 623 BC).
Onthe fifth day of the Prince's birth, the king gave his son Siddhartha the name, which means 'to reach his goal'. Dewi Mahamaya died a week after giving birthto her son. Her sister, Dewi Mahaprajapati, was then handed over to the taskand responsibility of raising and educating Prince Siddharta.
Oneday, Asita's ascetic who dwells in the mountains near the palace of the kingSuddhodana notices the light that shines brightly in the palace and decides tovisit the palace. The king welcomed Asita's ascetic while showing his son. Assoon as he saw Prince Siddharta, Asita's ascetic wept and said, "Too bad, I am old, I will not receive the Buddha'steachings, oh!" (Buddha comes from Budh, meaning consciousness)Buddha means one who has reached consciousness perfect). The king was surprisedand asked for further explanation from Asita's ascetic who added, "Later he will leave the palace to go ascetic looking forperfect consciousness.sam should be happy, because the Prince is the Gem of theWorld that is able to liberate beings from suffering He is the eternal light ofthe world that never go away ".
Asita'sascetic words make you uneasy day and night, for fear that her only son willleave the palace and become a hermit, wandering without shelter. For this youhave chosen many servants to take care of Prince Siddhartha, so that his onlyson will enjoy this worldly life. All forms of suffering tried to be removedfrom Prince Siddhartha's life, such as sickness, old age, and death. So Princeonly knows worldly pleasures.
Inthe Age of 7 years Prince Siddharta has studied various sciences. But PrinceSiddharta was less interested in the lesson. Prince Siddharta inhabits threepalaces, the spring palace, the rainy season and the transition. For 10 yearsthe Prince Siddharta lived in worldly pleasures.
Oneday Prince Siddhartha asked for permission to walk outside the palace, where ondifferent occasions he saw the Four Significant Conditions - the parents, thesick, the dead and the saints. So Prince Siddhartha grieved and asked himself,"What is the meaning of this life, if all willsuffer sickness, old age and death, especially those who ask for help to thosewho do not understand, who both do not know and are bound by everythingsomething of a temporary nature! ". Prince Siddhartha thought thatonly the holy life would give all of those answers.
PrinceSiddhartha's inner turmoil continued until he was 29 years old, just as hisonly son Rahula was born. One night, Prince Siddhartha decided to leave hispalace and accompanied by his coachman Canna. His determination has beenunanimous to do the Great Release by living as a hermit.
Inhis wandering, the ascetic Gautama studied the ascetic exercises of the asceticBhagava and then deepened the ascetic ways of two other ascetics, namely theascetic Alara Kalama and the Udraka Ramputra hermit. But after learning how tomeditate from both teachers, still has not found the answer he wanted. Sorealize the ascetic Gautama that in such a way implies will not achieve thePerfect Enlightenment.
Thenthe ascetic Gautama left his two teachers and went to Magada to perform atortured ascetic himself in the Uruwela forest, on the banks of the Nairanjanariver that flows near the Gaya forest. Despite his six years of self-torture inthe Uruwela forest, the Gautama ascetic still can not understand the nature andpurpose of the hermitage.
Oneday the monk Gautama in his hermitage heard an old man advising his son on aboat that crossed the Nairanjana river by saying, "If the string is tightened, the voice will be higher, and if it istightened, break the string, and the sound of the harp disappears. If thisstring of lyres is loosened, the voice will be lowered, and if it is too much, then the sound of the harp disappears."
Theadvice was very meaningful to the Gautama ascetic who finally decided to stophis tapanya and went to the river to bathe. His bone-dwelling body was barelyable to sustain Gautama's ascetic body. A woman named Sujata gave Gautama ahermit a bowl of milk. His body felt very weak and death almost took his soul, but with a strong will of steel, the ascetic Gautama continued his samadhiunder the Bodhi tree (Asetta) in the forest of Gaya, while pretending, "Though my blood dries up, my flesh rots, the bones arescattered, I will not leave this place until I reach the Perfect Enlightenment."
Feelinghesitant and hesitant over the ascetic Gautama, he almost despaired against thetemptation of Mara, the devil's great devil. With a strong will of steel andwith firm faith, finally Mara's temptation can be resisted and conquered. Thisoccurs when the morning star shows itself on the eastern horizon. Now theascetic Gautama became bright and clear, as bright as the dawn of dawn on theeastern horizon. The ascetic Gautama had attained the Perfect Enlightenment andbecame Samyaksam-Buddha [Sammasam-Buddha], just at the Purnama Raya moon inWaisak when he was 35 years old (according to Mahayana Buddhism version 531 BCon the 8th day of the 12th month, according to Lunar calendar version of WFB,in May of 588 BC). At the time of attaining the Perfect Enlightenment, of Hisbody emits six Buddha rays [Buddharasmi] in a Blue color which means bhakti;Yellow means wisdom and knowledge; Red which means compassion and compassion;White has a sacred meaning; Orange means enterprising; and the fifth mixture ofthe rays.
Afterattaining the Perfect Enlightenment, the ascetic Gautama received a degree ofperfection, among others: Gautama Buddha,Shakyamuni Buddha, Tathagata ('He Who Came', He Who Has Been '), Sugata (' TheAll-Knowing One '), Bhagava (' The Great ') etc. The five ascetics whoaccompanied him in the jungle of Uruwela were the first disciples of the Buddhawho listened to the first sermon [Dharmacakra Pravartana / DhammacakkaPavattana], where he described the Middle Way he found, the Eight Paths ofGlory, including the beginning of his preaching that explains the Four NobleTruths.
GautamaBuddha traveled to spread the Dharma for forty-five years to mankind withcompassion and affection until he reached the age of 80, where he knew that inthree months he would be Parinibbana.
TheBuddha in sickness lay between two Sala trees in Kusinagara, giving the lastDharma sermon to His disciples, then Parinibbana (version of Mahayana Buddhism,486 BC on the 15th day of the 2nd month of the Lunar calendar WFB version in May,543 BC).
